Rewa tops in increased child sex ratio at birth

Bhopal, July 9, 2019 (Ataullah Faizan): Out of 10 selected districts of the country, Rewa district has acquired top position for its good performance in child sex ratio at birth improves under Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme. The child sex ratio at birth has increased from 885 to 934 in the district. The district will be honoured at Vigyan Bhavan New Delhi on August 7 by the Women-Child Development Department of Government of India. The state had been honoured by the then Union Women-Child Development Minister Smt. Maneka Gandhi at the national level for better implementation of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Scheme in the state last January in New Delhi.
Various awareness programmes were organized in Rewa district under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme. Villages with low sex-ratio were identified and Har Ghar Dastak, Shakti Choupal, street plays, puppet shows etc. were organized in the district. At the same time, families with only daughters who have topped in class were honoured. Workshop, awareness rally, human chain, rangoli contest, birth anniversary and Bitiya Utsav in anganwadi centres were organized to stop female foeticide. Workshops were organized in colleges and schools at the district and project level by the Women-Child Development Department. New-born girl children and their parents were welcomed in the hospitals.
Six districts of the state Rewa, Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Datia and Tikamgarh were included for best performance at national level in the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme. The child sex ratio at birth in Rewa district in the year 2011 census was 885. The district was included under the scheme in April 2016 and at that time the child sex ratio in the district was 919 which increased to 934 in the year 2018-19.
