Cleanliness awards distributed in the country’s cleanest city

Union Minister Mr. Puri gives cleanliness awards to 41 clean cities of the country

Bhopal, June 25, 2018 (Ataullah Faizan):  Union Minister of State for Urban Housing and Urban Affairs, Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri today gave cleanliness awards to the representatives of 41 cities of the country in various categories at Brilliant Convention Centre of Indore. About 41 cities were honoured for bringing about cleanliness in various categories in the Cleanliness Survey-2018. Addressing the ceremony, Union Minister of State Mr. Puri said that the call given by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi from the ramparts of Red Fort to keep the country clean has today become a public movement. The work of cleanliness in the country is no longer a government work, but it has started coming in the people’s behavior. Referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s remarks, Union Minister of State Mr. Puri said that cleanliness has become more important in the present scenario. He said that the whole country will be open defecation free by the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, on October 2, 2019. He said that when the cleanliness campaign was started, the target was set to construct 67 lakh personal toilets and 5 lakh public toilets by October-2018.

Today, 57 lakh individual toilets and 3 lakh 80,000 public toilets have been constructed in the country with public support given to the campaign. Union Minister of State, Mr. Puri presented the survey data for the year 2016, 2017 and 2018. Mr. Puri informed that 73 cities took part in the year 2016 survey, 432 in year 2017 and 4 thousand 203 cities in 2018.

Urban Development Minister Mrs. Maya Singh said that the public has adopted cleanliness in every city and locality in the state. Two years back, this journey had begun with great difficulty but gradually it became easier and now cleanliness can be seen in people’s behaviour. Urban Development Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mr. Siresh Khanna was also present in the programme.
