Madhya Pradesh bags first prize in Swachh Sarvekshan-2019

President awards first prize in various categories to Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain 2. Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Jaivardhan Singh and Mayor receive award
Bhopal, March 6, 2019 (Ataullah Faizan): Indore has been awarded the first prize in Swachh Sarvekshan-2019. Indore has the distinction of being the cleanest city of the country for the third consecutive year. Simultaneously Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal has bagged the first prize in the country’s clean capital category while first prize in the city with 3-10 lakh population category has been bagged by Ujjain. Jabalpur city has bagged the top position in Innovations and Best Practices. These awards were given by President Shri Ramnath Kovind at the Swachh Sarvekshan Award ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. On behalf of Madhya Pradesh government, the state’s Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Jaivardhan Singh, besides the mayors of the three cities, Sushri Malini Goud, Shri Alok Sharma and Sushri Meena Vijay Jonwal and the Municipal Commissioners of all three district and senior officials of the department received the award. On this occasion, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Development Shri Hardeep S. Puri, Principal Secretary Urban Development and Housing Shri Sanjay Dubey, Commissioner Shri Gulshan Bamra, Mission Director Swachh Bharat Mission Shri Manish Singh along with senior officers of the Ministry were present. In his address, the President lauded Indore and congratulated the officers and people of the state.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Jaivardhan Singh has said that cleanliness campaign being implemented in the state has got national recognition. He congratulated the citizens and all the participants of the cities and officials-employees engaged in the cleanliness campaign. Shri Singh has expressed confidence that next year many more cities of the state will be included in the awards category.
Madhya Pradesh bags total 19 awards
Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Khargone, Nagda, Bhopal, Singrauli, Jabalpur, Chhindwada, Neemuch, Sagar, Pithampur, Gwalior, Ratlam, Rewa, Damoh, Shivpuri, Hoshangabad, Khandwa and Katni are included in the first 100 cities of the country under various categories. Madhya Pradesh has bagged total 19 awards in the field of Swachh Sarvekshan this year. While Indore and Ujjain have been awarded in the category of innovative efforts, Indore has been awarded in the garbage-free city category. In addition Shahganj Municipal Council has been given the Cleanest Municipal Council award in the western region. In the category of cities with medium population, Dewas Municipal Corporation and Nagda Municipality have been awarded for solid waste management.
In the garbage-free city category, Nagda, Dhar, Khargone, Kymore and Shahganj Municipal Councils have been awarded. Apart from these, Ujjain, Dewas and Singrauli Municipal Corporation has also been awarded with cleanliness awards.
