Girl’s birth to be celebrated in Madhya Pradesh

Badhai Geet, beating of drum to mark occasion

Committee headed by sarpanch to be formed in 23,000 panchayats

Birth of girls will be celebrated like a festival at panchayat level. The occasion will be marked by singing of Badhai Geet and beating of drum. For this, a committee headed by sarpanch/corporator will be formed in 23 thousand panchayats. Stating this, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs.. Maya Singh informed that this practice will enhance respect of girls in society and curb female foeticide. Minister Mrs.. Singh informed that during departmental review, Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan had directed to initiate a measure to generate love for girl child and enhance respect of girls in society. She said that this decision has been taken in the context of CM’s directive that festivities are held in villages on the birth of a girl. Mangal Diwas is held on a day during week in Anganwadis. This programme will be held on this day. For holding the programme, a committee headed by local sarpanch or corporator will be constituted. Anganwadi worker will Member-Secretary of the committee. President of Health, Woman and Child Committee, ASHA worker, woman health workers and all woman panchs will be its members. After registration of girl’s birth, members of the committee, anganwadi worker, ASHA worker and woman health worker will celebrate her birthday. Concerning girl’s parents will also be honoured along with girl.
