Home and Jail Minister Mr. Gaur discusses proposal

Bhopal, July 15, 2015 (Abdul Ahad Farhan): Home and Jail Minister Mr. Babulal Gaur has informed that provisions will be made in store purchase rules to ensure that goods manufactured by prisoners in jails of the state are purchased by government agencies and departments on the lines of Laghu Udyog Nigam. A proposal in this regard will be chalked out following discussions between officers of Jail and Industries departments and sent to the government for consideration. Following proposal made by Mr. Gaur, discussions were held between Principal Secretaries of Industries and Jail departments and DG Jail at Mantralaya today. Mr. Gaur said that at the time of purchase of materials from LUN, a department need not complete formalities of tender etc. A proposal is being sent to the government for direct purchase of products manufactured in jail by departments in the same manner.

Following its approval, production of goods in jail will increase and prisoners will learn to prepare various kinds of products. They will earn money while in jail, get self-employment once they are released after serving sentence and join mainstream of society. Besides, various government departments and agencies will also get good quality products at local level and on fair prices.
