“Chief Minister’s cup” to introduce youths with traditional games

Bhopal, August 25, 2015 (Ataullah Faizan):  Novel initiatives are being undertaken in the state to create awareness about sports among youths. On the initiative of Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Mrs. Yashodhara Raje Scindia, “Chief Minister’s Cup” event will be held for traditional games like wrestling, tug of war, kabaddi, kho-kho, mini marathon, volleyball, tennis ball cricket, athletics etc. Its main objective is to identify talented sportspersons at village level and provide adequate coaching to emerging players. To promote traditional games, wrestling competitions will be held as pilot project in 4 districts including Indore, Ujjain, Khandwa and Burhanpur. “Chief Minister’s Cup” events will be held in 4 rounds.

First round will be held at block headquarters, second at district headquarters, third at 10 divisional level and 4th round will be held at state level as league competition of teams/players selected from divisions. Boys and girls below 16 years of age will participate in the event. Age will be counted as on December 31, 2015.  For 4 competitions in games athletics, kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball under “Chief Minister’s Cup”, Rs. 20 thousand will be provided to every development block.

For district level competitions, Rs. 51 thousand and divisional level competitions Rs. one lakh each will be provided. For wrestling competitions, Rs. 25 thousand each will be provided to 4 districts and Rs. 40 thousand to divisions. The boy and girl teams standing first, second and third at state level will be given prizes of Rs. one lakh, Rs. 75 thousand and Rs. 50 thousand each. First three winner teams in individual sports (athletics) will be given Rs. 10 thousand, Rs. 7 thousand and Rs. 5 thousand each.
