Farmers enshusiastic to sell wheat on support price

Over six lakh farmers registered

Tenders for GPS tracking also invited

Bhopal, January 5, 2012 (Ataullah Faizan):  Farmers are overly enthusiastic for selling wheat on procurement price during the ensuing Rabi season. So far, over six lakh farmers have got themselves registered in advance for this purpose. Meanwhile, the State Government is going to implement GPS tracking system as a clinching effort for prevention of misappropriation of food grains during transportation. Tenders have been invited for this purpose and the work will be undertaken immediately after their finalisation. This information was given by Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies Mr. Paras Chandra Jain during a departmental review at the Mantralaya today.  Minister of State Mr. Jain said that registration of farmers for procurement of wheat on support price will be continued till the start of the season. The State Government intends to associate maximum number of farmers with this arrangement in view of their convenience. Out of more than six lakh farmers, maximum 60 thousand farmers have been registered in Hoshangabad district.

Minister of State Mr. Jain instructed the officers that all the preparations for wheat procurement should be made in advance as per the wish of the Chief Minister. Therefore, there should be no laxity at any level. Mr. Jain informed that arrangements of GPS tracking system should be made at earliest for preventing misappropriation of procured food grains during transportation. In this connection, the State Civil Supplies Corporation is making preparations for installing this system on its vehicles. The cooperative societies will also install GPS tracking system on the vehicles to be used by them. Tenders for the system’s installation have been invited.

Minister of State Mr. Jain informed that beneficiaries of Hoshangabad and Harda districts are going to get Food Coupons soon due to acceleration in the pace of this process. The work of cross-checking is also nearing completion in these districts. The printing of food coupons has started. Besides, registration for food coupons has also gathered momentum in Khandwa and Burhanpur districts.
