Over 94,000 girls benefited under Gaon Ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran schemes

Get conveyance allowance for going to college also

Bhopal, April 10, 2012 (Ataullah Faizan):  Besides other schemes for making available higher education to daughters in the state, two other important schemes including “Gaon Ki Beti” and “Pratibha Kiran” are also being run. Scholarships worth Rs. 54 crore 92 lakh 43 thousand has been made available to 88 thousand 153 girls from the year 2009-10 to 2011-12. Similarly, Rs. 2 crore 60 lakh has been made available as scholarships to 6,718 girls since the year 2009-10. Not only this, girls are also provided conveyance allowance for attending college. Scholarships under Gaon Ki Beti Yojna are made available as per eligibility to all the rural girls having passed class 12 exam in first division. Scholarships worth Rs. 14 crore was made available to 28 thousand 141 girls in the year 2009-10, Rs. 17 crore 42 lakh 43 thousand to 32 thousand 226 girls in 2010-11 and Rs. 23 crore 50 lakh to 27 thousand 786 girls in 2011-12.

Under the scheme, girls are given Rs. 500 and Rs. 750 per month scholarship each for traditional and engineering and medical education respectively. Similarly, scholarships are given under Pratibha Kiran Yojna to motivate girls belonging to urban BPL family towards education. Under the scheme, scholarships worth Rs. 50 lakh was made available to 2034 eligible girls in the year 2009-10, Rs. 60 lakh to 2278 girls in 2010-11 and Rs. 1.50 crore to 2406 girls in 2011-12. Each girl student living more than five kilometer away from concerning government college is given Rs. 5 per day for 200 academic days. Rs. 75 lakh was spent under the scheme during the year 2011-12.
