Salutes to the Iron Man – Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Bhopal, October 31, 2015 (Abdul Ahad Farhan):   Reverential salutes to Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel, one of the lodestars of country’s freedom movement and rebuilding of nation, on behalf of the 75 million people of Madhya Pradesh. A grateful nation would always remember him as a great nation builder, able administrator and a statesman par excellence. The hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has taken laudable initiative to observe Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary as National Unity Day. As part of measures to perpetuate his memories an iron Statue of Unity is being installed on Mr. Modi’s initiatvie. The statue will be largest in the world. This would help acquaint the younger generation with the personality and deeds of Sardar Patel. As Deputy Prime Minster and Home Minister of independent India Sardar Patel integrated the 560 odd princely states into Indian Union with matchless political acumen, boldness and ability. He tactfully dealt with the revolt of Travancore and Hyderabad states.

It is his statesmanship and boldness that Bhopal and Junagarh got merged in Indian Union. I believe that had Sardar Patel not been the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in 1947, the history of India would have been quite different.  It is due to his boldness and sagacity that he is called India’s Bismarck. Mahatma Gandhi gave him the soubriquet of Sardar for his exceptionally great leadership qualities. He is also called India’s Iron Man and Lenin of Bardoli.

A rebellious by nature and endowed with sharp intellect right from early age, Sardar Patel was deeply impressed and influenced by Mahatma Gandhi. He got inspired from the Mahatma to make service of the nation his mission in life. During Gujrat’s peasant movement the country came to know of the Sardar’s extraordinary organizing capacity. His role in integration and re-building of India would always be remembered by people of India. All possible efforts should be made to acquaint the new generation with the contribution of Sardar Patel.
