Bhopal, December 6, 2015 (Ataullah Faizan): Chief Secretary Mr. Anthony de Sa reviewed efforts to control tuberculosis in Sahariya tribal population in 8 districts of the state here today. The CS directed Health & Medical Education, Women & Child Development and Tribal Welfare departments to intensify joint efforts for TB control in Sahariya dominant areas. The meeting was informed that about 15 thousand TB patients have been detected during last 3 years in about 6 lakh population of Sahariya tribe in Shivpuri, Sheopur Kalan, Ashok Nagar, Guna, Gwalior, Morena, Datia and Vidisha districts.
They are being extended benefit of prescribed treatment. CS directed to eradicate root cause of the disease and control it through other measures including special nutritious diet. The meeting was informed that ratio of TB patients in the country on an average is 216 per one lakh population, whereas this ratio in Sahariya areas is about 3000 per one lakh. Situations and lifestyle are responsible for this due to which TB infection is spreading. Officers of National Institute for Research in Tribal Health, Jabalpur, Principal Secretary Health Mrs. Gauri Singh and Health Commissioner Mr. Pankaj Agrawal were present at the meeting.
