Mercury on upswing in Bhopal, other cities

Bhopal, December 29, 2015 (Ataullah Faizan):  WITH mercury level going up, intense cold conditions have weakened in Bhopal and other major cities including Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Khajuraho. In the meantime, some parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh are likely to be in the grip of severe cold. Weather Department said that cold conditions have improved in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Khajuraho under the influence of western disturbance existing in North Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir. Bhopal’s maximum temperature scaled up to 26.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal. Its minimum temperature settled at 9.6 degrees Celsius and it was normal. But, some places are going to shiver under the influence of cold wave. According to the Weather Department, some places in Shahdol and Rewa divisions are likely to witness cold wave. Districts namely Betul, Raisen, Shivpuri, Khandwa, Ratlam, Mandla, Malajkhand and Narsinghpur would also shiver due to cold wave. Meanwhile, isolated places of Chambal division and districts including Gwalior, Datia, Tikamgarh and Chhattarpur districts, are likely to witness fog of light to medium intensity. Frost could strike in sundry parts of Rewa, Umaria, Mandla, Malajkhand, Raisen and Shivpuri districts. The lowest minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius was registered in Umaria. In last twenty-four hours, weather remained dry in State. Shahdol division remained in the grip of cold wave. Minimum temperatures shot up in Sagar and Chambal divisions. As weather conditions eased, people in Bhopal heaved a sigh of relief. Otherwise, intense cold was tormenting them due to which normal life was badly affected. Weather Department said that there would be no change in weather conditions.
