Gandhi Sagar to be developed as global level tourist centre

Chief Secretary pays visit

Bhopal, January 15, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan):  Chief Secretary Mr. Anthony de Sa inspected Gandhi Sagar dam in Mandsaur district today. Mr. de Sa witnessed the work to transform the dam and nearby areas into attractive tourist centre by Tourism Development Corporation. He said that immense possibilities of tourism will be explored by developing a tourist circuit in the area. The Chief Secretary was accompanied by MD of Tourism Development Corporation Mr. Hari Ranjan Rao. Through boating, the CS witnessed natural beauty of Malasari island. He directed to develop it from point of view of tourism. Mr. de Sa also inspected the vast catchment area. He said that every possible effort should be made to development Gandhi Sagar in view of its natural beauty and archaeological importance.

The CS went to Gandhi Sagar in Khandwa district undertaking aerial survey of Gandhi Sagar Dam, Dharm Rajeshwar, Hingalajgarh fort and other tourist spots in the area. It was informed that there are tourism development possibilities in Gandhi Sagar dam if a tourist circuit is developed between Udaipur and Ujjain. As per first level estimate, all works are likely to incur expenditure of about Rs. 17 crore. Plan for rest house and Malasari island is ready.

Tourism Development Corporation has focused on Bhanpura’s museum, Hingalajgarh fort, Suraj Kund, Chaturbhuj Nath Nullah and Dhar Rajeshwar’s ancient temples in addition to Gandhi Sagar. The corporation has included Mandsaur and Gandhi Sagar in tourist circuit.  The resort will have 20 cottages, resort building, open amphitheatre, facilitation centre, naturopathy treatment centre, tree-house, viewpoint, boat club & water sports activities, adventure zone, staff quarters, approach road, conference and interpretation hall in main building, restaurant, gym, indoor games and library.
