Priority to roads connecting tourists centres

cmcinc19.1.16Bhopal, January 19, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan):  Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed to ensure high quality in construction of roads and buildings. He said that quality and design of works should be of global standard. He directed to attach priority to roads connecting major tourist destinations and ensure regular repairs of rural roads. Mr. Chouhan was reviewing activities of Public Works Department at Mantralaya here today. PWD Minister Mr. Sartaj Singh, Chief Secretary Mr. Anthony de Sa, Principal Secretary PWD Mr. Pramod Agrawal, MD of Road Development Corporation Mr. Manish Rastogi and other senior departmental officers attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister said that arrangements should be made for regular repairs of rural roads. He directed to assess condition of rural roads. Chalk out action plan as per priority for necessary works as per assessment of existing situation. He said that special stress should laid on quality of construction, upgradation and renovation works. Works should be regularly monitored and materials tested. He said that the life-period of roads’ overlay works should also be fixed. Strict action should be taken against concerning construction agency if it peels off before time-limit. He stressed the need to undertake patchworks of roads at departmental level.

The Chief Minister said that constant inspections and visits are necessary for PWD officers. There should be no laxity in this work. He said that designs for new government buildings should be such that they consume less space and are constructed vertically. Their design and foundation should be made as per future needs. If construction is not of immediate nature, it can be undertaken in phases. He said that works in the state should be of international level. Technical staff, resources etc should be efficient in all world level works. He directed to make estimates of necessary fiscal resources with regard to demand for new roads.

He instructed to felicitate staff with outstanding performance and make efforts to ensure their social recognition. The meeting was informed that in-principle consent has been given by Central government to convert 1468 km long state highways in the state into national highways. After survey of all district roads, action plan in 5 categories has been made for necessary works of every road. All district roads will be renovated by year 2018. Process is on to convert 6500 km long rural roads into district roads and 3496 km long district roads into state highways.
