After soil testing, scientists should apprise farmers of results

Forest Minister inaugurates soil testing training workshop at Raisen

shejwa21.1.16Bhopal, January 21, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan):  Forest Minister Dr. Gaurishankar Shejwar inaugurated soil testing training workshop under Soil Health Card Scheme at Raisen today. The Minister said that only soil testing is not sufficient, but scientists should also apprise farmers about results of testing. They should give advice to farmers about ways to grow more crop with less cost. Dr. Shejwar said that Rural Agriculture Development Extension Officers are most important link between farmers and the government. They must be well versed about local area, agriculture and latest techniques and win trust of farmers by quenching their curiosities.

They should remain in constant touch with farmers, right from sowing operations till harvesting. They should gather farmers at panchayat or school building and impart them practical knowledge about latest techniques. The Minister said that production increases with extension of agriculture area and state’s economy becomes dynamic. Farmers’ purchasing power increases. Dr. Shejwar said that crops needing less irrigation should be grown in the areas where groundwater level has sunken. The Minister announced reward of Rs. 11 thousand each from his discretionary fund for one Rural Agriculture Development Extension Officer each of Sanchi and Gairatganj development blocks.
