Revenue should be recovered without bothering businessmen
Mr. Malaiya holds discussions with departmental officers at Indore
Bhopal, February 5, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan): Finance and Commercial Taxes Minister Mr. Jayant Malaiya chaired a meeting of all wings of Commercial Taxes Department of Indore Zone at Indore today. Addressing the meeting, the Minister said that revenue recovery should be increased without causing inconvenience to businessmen. He directed to ensure seating and drinking water arrangements for businessmen at departmental offices. He asked officers to mend their attitude toward businessmen without any bias. Disciplinary action will be initiated against concerning officers if any unnecessary notice is served to businessmen.
During review of Excise Department, Mr. Malaiya said that permission to IT payers for 100 liquor bottles will be reviewed again. Mr. Malaiya said that commercial taxes should be simplified and rules rationalized. Efforts should be made to increase revenue. He asked officers to present a comparative report after studying commercial taxes structures of other states. Commercial vehicles’ must be registered in the state itself. It will increase state’s revenue. Entire department needs to be computerized. During review of Registration and Stamps Department, Mr. Malaiya said that e-Registration will continue. E-Registration will eliminate bogus registries.
The Minister informed that about Rs. 19 crore revenue is collected every year from Registration Department. He said that sale of houses and flats in cities and plots in villages has declined. Importance will be attached to suggestions presented by officers while chalking out new guidelines of Registration Department. He said that thumb impression, signature and photographs are mandatory for e-Registration. The Minister said that permission to IT payers for 100 liquor bottles will be reviewed. He also said that ‘social responsibility tax’ will be levied on liquor sale.
He informed that collection of entertainment tax will be withdrawn from Commercial Taxes and given to Excise Department. State government’s excise policy is reviewed every year. Along with revenue, attention has also to be paid to social responsibility and law & order. Excise Department’s experiment of enclosures adjoining liquor shops has been successful. These enclosures will be equipped with facility along with parking place.
