Baiga Olympics to be held on grand scale

bisem12.4.16Bhopal, April 12, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan):  Baiga Olympics was held recently in Baihar tahasil of Balaghat district to preserve and promote culture and traditional sports of primitive tribe Baiga. For success of the event and make it more attractive, it was marked by hot air balloons, parasailing, commando net, Burma Bridge and other adventure sports. At inaugural function, participants from 4 districts took out attractive march past with Olympics Flag and gave salute to the guests. The participants were also administered pledge. Finance Minister and in-charge of Balaghat district Mr. Jayant Malaiya witnessed and lauded the Olympics.

He said that it would be held on a grand scale in future. Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Mr. Gaurishankar Bisen said that Baiga Olympics will also increase employment opportunities in the region. He described it as a laudable effort.  Baiga Olympics was held jointly by Balaghat Tourism Promotion Council, Tribal Development and Sports & Youth Welfare departments.

Its main objective was to promote tourism activities in this area adjoining Kanha National Park, create mass awareness in tribal dominant region and generate new employment opportunities. On the occasion of this special Olympic, a free medical camp for citizens of Baihar was organised where specialist doctors of Nagpur and Jabalpur medical colleges examined health of patients. Olympics was inaugurated by Zila Panchayat President Mrs. Rekha Bisen by lighting Baiga Olympics Torch having visited various districts and unfurling Olympics Flag. MP Mr. Bodh Singh Bhagat, MLAs, other public representatives and large number of Baiga people were present on the occasion.
