Benefit of Pradhan Mantri crop insurance scheme to over 85,000 loanee farmers
Bhopal, May 18, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan): Kisan Sabhas were held during Gram Sansad at 17 thousand 857 Gram Panchayats in the state under Gramoday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan. Annual agriculture plans were chalked out at Kisan Sabhas. During the campaign, over 85 thousand 857 loanee farmers were given benefit of Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme. About 19 lakh farmers took part in Kisan Sabhas. This were informed by Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Mr. Gaurishankar Bisen. The Minister informed that during the campaign starting from April 14, total 79 thousand 970 samples of soil as per feed were taken for testing under Soil Health Card Scheme through Kisan Sabhas. During the campaign, 22 thousand 914 Soil Health Cards were distributed. Farmers were motivated to promote use of hybrid seeds. Besides, efforts were also made in the direction of crop rotation and diversification of crops. As a result, farmers will grow such crops in their fields in 4 lakh 13 thousand hectares during Kharif season which were not cultivated there. Mr. Bisen said that efforts have been made during the campaign to promote inter-changeable crops. In Kisan Sabhas farmers were motivated to grow such crops in 4 lakh 13 thousand hectares.
He said that farmers were also advised to undertake organic farming in fresh one lakh 75 thousand 500 hectares. During the campaign, farmers were counselled to grow vegetable crops in additional area of one lakh 49 thousand 581 hectares during Kharif-2016.To give impetus to farm forestry, farmers were advised to plant 12 lakh 76 thousand 102 saplings in their fields. Process for cases of 9 lakh 42 thousand farmers was started under Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme, he added.
