Integrated farming helpful to make agriculture profitable

Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Radhamohan Singh reviews at Rewa

Bhopal, June 4, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan):  Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Radhamohan Singh has said that integrated farming will be helpful in making agriculture profitable. He said that agriculture will become profitable only when farmers grow crops in accordance with quality of soil as per Soil Health Cards. Union Minister Mr. Singh was undertaking review of Agriculture and other concerning departments at Rewa today. Public Relations and Energy Minister Mr. Rajendra Shukla and MP Mr. Janardan Mishra were also present at the meeting. Union Minister Mr. Singh said that instead of conventional farming, farmers need to be motivated for commercial farming. He said that crops should be selected in accordance with quality of soil. Farmers’ income will increase only through these methods. For motivating farmers for integrated farming, the Union Minister direct to take farmers on visits to Agriculture Science Centres and their counselling by agriculture experts from time to time.  The Minister directed to accelerate pace of issuing Soil Health Cards. He said that targets of farmers remaining incomplete last year should be completed in current year. He informed that efforts are being made to set up mini labs for testing soil at Panchayat level.

The Union Minister also directed to ensure advance agriculture techniques in Sansad Adarsh Grams and make available resources to farmers to irrigate fields through watershed methods. He also stressed to use micro irrigation sprinkler methods for crops needing more water.  Union Minister Mr. Singh apprised himself of information regarding digging of ponds in fields for fish farming by farmers in the district.

He said that farmers should be taken to visits of other districts and made aware of latest techniques. Farmers awareness programmes under ‘ATMA’ project should be held regularly. Mr. Singh said that agriculture officers and agriculture scientists should coordinate to inform farmers about new techniques so that the good work done in Madhya Pradesh in agriculture sector continues.
