New Delhi: Playing cricket turned fatal for a 16-year-old boy after he was hit on the head with a bat by his friend in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur area on Wednesday evening. The friend, identified as Aakash (19), has been detained for questioning and a case under sections of culpable homicide has been registered.
The victim, Shivam, who lived in Uttar Pradesh’s Minora Kalpi village, had come to Delhi a fortnight ago to spend time with his parents and younger brother.
According to the police, three of Shivam’s friends, including Aakash, had come to his house to play cricket to which Shivam agreed and went along with his friends.
“Around 6.30pm, one of his friends came rushing to inform us about what had happened though he had not told us that our son had died. We went to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya hospital but the doctors didn’t allow us to see him for even a minute,” said Jagdish, Shivam’s father.
One of Shivam’s friends, Amit, who was witness to the entire incident, said that he was at a distance when Shivam and Aakash started to fight. “I was at a distance and talking to another person in our group when I turned and saw Aakash hurling abuses at Shivam and then hit him with a bat, soon after which he collided,” he said.
Shivam’s grieving mother, Geeta, however, alleged that this was not an accident but a conspiracy. Police are trying to ascertain if the game was the only reason behind Shivam’s death.
