UP BJP vice president suspending on calling Mayawati worse than sex worker

NEW DELHI: The BJP’s Uttar Pradesh vice president Dayashankar Singh kicked off a controversy while accusing BSP leader Mayawati of selling her party’s election tickets to the highest bidder. The larger controversy however came with his likening the former UP Chief Minister to a sex worker.
A video clip of the controversial remarks at a press conference, released by news agency ANI on Wednesday, showed Dayashankar Singh saying, “Mayawati has deviated from the principles that were outlined by Kanshiram.”
He then said her decision-making on ticket distribution was akin to that a sex worker.
“She sells BSP seats to highest-bidder. In the morning, Mayawati may give a BSP ticket to someone for Rs 1 crore. After two hours, she may sell the same ticket for Rs 2 crore. In the evening, she may even hand over the same seat to another person for Rs 3 crore,” said Dayashankar Singh.
His use of a word to liken Mayawati to a sex worker drew sharp reactions.
“These kind of derogatory statements show that the BJP is agitated over the growing popularity of the BSP,” said Mayawati to reporters outside Parliament.
State BJP chief Keshav Maurya said action would be taken against Dayashankar Singh if he does not apologise for the remarks. “I think this is wrong and I apologise. Such words shouldn’t be used. We have asked him to apologise for his remarks. If he does not apologise, we will take action,” he said.
Dayashankar Singh’s comments rock Parliament
Raising the issue of Dayashankar Singh’s comments about Mayawati in the Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that “someone with such a mentality should have no place in any party or hold any office in any party.”
“I am personally hurt that a BJP party person used such derogatory words against Mayawati,” finance minister Arun Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha.

BSP leader SP Mishra demanded that Dayashankar Singh should be booked under the SC/ST Atrocities Act and should be arrested and sent to jail immediately.
