Organic farming is being undertaken on 2 lakh hectare area currently
Bhopal, August 31, 2018 (Ataullah Faizan): The Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Department has prepared a programme for expansion of certified organic farming area by 4 lakh hectare by 2021. Currently, organic farming is being carried out on 2 lakh hectare area approximately. The organic farming is being undertaken mainly on the banks of Narmada river in the state. Madhya Pradesh is the pride state for having maximum certified organic farming area in the country. It may be mentioned that organic policy was implemented from 2011 in the state.
Later, the organic farming development council was constituted. It is to be highlighted further that Madhya Pradesh is counted as the leading area in the world in the field of organic cotton production. Farmers are being encouraged for organic farming in the state. As many as 32 blocks of Alirajpur, Jhabua, Betul, Khandwa, Sagar, Damoh, Chhindwara, Mandla, Balaghat, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Anuppur, Sheopurkalan, Bhopal and Sehore have been included under the certified organic farming scheme. Along with this, in order to boost organic certification process, 8 departmental government farms have been totally selected for organic seed production under the organic seed production programme.
