State level campaign to be conducted for consumer awareness: Minister Shri Tomar

Toll Free No. 1800-233-0046 released for complaints Bhopal, September 18, 2019 (Muslim Saleem): The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Shri Pradyuman Singh said that a State Awareness Campaign will be conducted in the state for protection of consumers’ interests. He mentioned that the service-charge taken in hotel or restaurant have been made optional. To pay it or not, it is now at the will of customer. Minister Shri Tomar said that “Consumer” is a person, who receives the goods or services in exchange for a price. All the provisions for protection of consumers’ interest, are included in the ‘Consumer Protection Act’ in services like banking, insurance, transport, electricity, entertainment, rail, post, telephone and other such services for which payment is made. Shri Tomar said that it is essential for the common consumers to know that service-charge is a tip. Based on the satisfaction of the service, the customer should decide how much to pay or not to pay. If a hotel or restaurant compels or asks the customer to pay a predetermined service-charge, the consumer can lodge a complaint in the consumer forum or on the toll free number 1800-233-0046 of the State Consumer Help Line.
