3 Muslim youths arrested for shooting monkey, communal tension in UP’s Shamli

Shamli: Tension has spread in the area after three youths shot dead a monkey in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district. According to Hindu belief, the monkey is considered to be the form of Lord Hanuman and it is considered a sin to hurt. Police has registered an FIR against the three accused in the case. After this incident, the body of the monkey was sent for postmortem, after which his body was buried. Pradeep Kumar, the jurisdiction officer (CO) of Kairana said, ‘An FIR has been lodged against the three brothers – Asif, Hafiz and Anees. The monkey was shot from one of the four licensed weapons. ”According to police, the monkey was shot on the back and died shortly thereafter. Bajrang Dal started protest The Forest Department has registered a case under sections of the Wildlife Safety Act 1972, which provides for a jail term of 6 months and fine. However, no one has been arrested yet. After the incident, local activists of Bajrang Dal protested and villagers joined them as news spread. The district president of Bajrang Dal youth unit Sunny Saroha said that three youths belonging to the minority community shot and severely injured the monkey. ‘Offensive comment by shooters’ Saroha said that he has also made some objectionable statements. We demand their immediate arrest and cancellation of their arms licenses. In view of the situation, additional force has been deployed in the area.
